New People’s Army offensives slap Oplan Bantay Laya in the face

Armed Forces of the Philippines is responsible for civilian casualties

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas today congratulated the New People's Army for carrying out offensives in Samar that expose the failure of the government's Oplan Bantay Laya. The NDF-EV also chided the Armed Forces of the Philippines for blaming civilian casualties on the NPA even though government troops deliberately encamp in civilian areas and facilities. "The people salute the NPA for punishing the fascist troops who are bolstering the corrupt Arroyo regime," said NDF-EV spokesperson Fr. Santiago Salas. "The NPA successfully carried out offensives in San Jorge, Western Samar last May 23, and again in Catarman, Northern Samar last May 30. At least three soldiers were killed in action and an Army officer, Lt. Philip Muyco, was also seriously wounded in the offensives.

The Philippine National Police and the politicians of Abra are celebrating because of the alleged capture of Jovencio Balweg, and the surrender of his wife Carmen and their son, Jovencio, Jr. The Cordillera PNP and the National hierarchy of the PNP are harking over their achievement. Gov. Takit Bersamin and former Gov. Andres Bernos even joined the press conference in Camp Crame. They have prematurely anticipated the end of the national democratic revolutionary struggle, particularly in Abra.

A statement on the capture of Comrade Jovencio “Ka Dawa” Balweg

On 19 May 2009, the leadership of the Philippine National Police in the Cordillera announced to media the capture of Comrade Jovencio “Ka Dawa” Balweg, and the subsequent arrest of his wife. Ka Dawa has been in Baguio City on extended medical leave for treatment of several illnesses including spinal canal stenosis, hypertension, and a recent mild stroke among others. His captors continue to parade him as a prized catch to squeeze as much media mileage as they could, and even daydream that Ka Dawa's capture would spark an end to the revolutionary movement in his home province of Abra and in the region. This is farthest from reality.

Justice for “Vanessa” and other women victims of abuse by US interventionist soldiers!

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) joins the Filipino people in condemning another incident of rape of a Filipina by a US soldier, this time inside a five-star hotel in Makati. "Vanessa," a 22-year old Filipina student was brutalized and raped last April 19 by a US marine.

Vanessa commendably came out yesterday to publicly reveal the violence and violation committed against her. Her revelation further opens the Filipino people's eyes about how Filipino women continue to be victims of abuse by US soldiers stationed in the Philippines.
