My release from the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) through the court’s decision on 19 September 2014 makes me more effective in carrying out my responsibility as National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Consultant for the Visayas. I was illegally arrested in Davao City last 07 May 2014 along with an NDFP liaison for the peace talks.

CPP demands release of NDFP Visayas peace consultant

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today demanded the immediate release of NDFP peace consultant for the Visayas Roy Erecre who was arrested last 7 May 2014 in Barangay (village) Bajada, Davao City, by joint military and police forces. Mr. Erecre is currently detained at the Bohol district jail in Tagbilaran City.

“The arrest of Mr. Erecre is another act of gross violation of the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) which provides safety and immunity guarantees to either party’s peace talks personnel. The JASIG prohibits either party to surveil, arrest, detain and prosecute the other party’s negotiators, consultants and staff members,” said the CPP.

I extend warmest greetings to the great indigenous people of Talaingod, Davao del Norte, for their persistent fighting spirit, opposing the landgrabbing of Alcantara and Sons since the 1990s and up to now, and their resistance to destructive mining. They are now subjected to the most brutal militarization causing their renewed uprooting. They indeed deserve our strong solidarity.

Secretary Deles wishes to avoid the Aquino regime’s obligation to comply with binding peace agreements which the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP/GPH) signed with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). Her lame excuse is to call compliance with the 1995 Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) as mere “procedural matters”.
