The New People’s Army Southern Mindanao Regional Command issues this apology for launching a counter-offensive ambush against the 39th Infantry Battalion on 2 March 2014 at 7:00 pm that hit an ambulance and injured four rescuers in Barangay (village) Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. We express our deep regret and commiserate with the victims from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, namely Genaro Doronio Dumayas (driver), Bonita dela Cruz (nurse), Arnel Comandante Veloroso and Alberto Simbajon Cabual.

NPA ambushes Philippine Army, PNP troops in North Cotabato

The New People’s Army aimed at trouncing the 57th Infantry Battalion troops and Philippine National Police personnel during an ambush on 27 February at 3:00 pm in Barangay (village) Datu Inda, President Roxas town, North Cotabato. The tactical offensive did not target Pres. Roxas Mayor Jaime Mahimpit who was with the armed convoy. When the mayor’s gray Pajero car passed through the road, NPA operatives switched on the command-detonated explosives against 14 policemen in motorcycles and the military aboard a 6×6 truck who were closely following the mayor. The ambush wounded SPO4 Hector Castillo, who was the mayor’s escort leader, PO3 Joemer Ilagan, and PO2 Joselax Avena.

Successive tactical offensives launched by the Guerilla Front 51 Operations Command under the Mt. Apo Subregional Command-New People’s Army in Digos and Makilala towns this month were meant to stymie the abusive military operations of the notorious 39th Infantry Battalion, 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

On 18 February at 3:30 am, NPA explosives killed scores of 39th Infantry Battalion soldiers at the military detachment in Jansig, Barangay (village) Old Bulatukan, Makilala. Earlier, on 10 February at 2:30pm, the NPA ambushed the Scout Rangers platoon of the 39th Infantry Battalion in Sitio (sub-village) Lutangan, Barangay Goma, Digos City.
