We came to know Ka Felix Randy Malayao personally in the course of the peace negotiations between the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) from 2016 to 2017.
What immediately struck us as soon as he introduced himself to us was his amiability, cheerful mien, quick sense of humor and deep sense of optimism.
In the course of working with him we came to respect him for his revolutionary integrity, intellect and diligence in the discussion of issues and drafting of documents and his desire for a just and lasting peace.
As a consultant, he participated in the discussion and the formulation of the NDFP drafts on the Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms CASER) and the Comprehensive Agreement on Political and Constitutional Reforms.
He also worked hard in promoting the peace process by taking long and tiring trips to speak in various forums in the Philippines and abroad. These forums were organized either by third party peace advocates, the NDFP unilaterally or bilaterally with the GRP.
While Ka Randy was in prison, we came to know him through mutual friends who informed us of his background and condition and who brought books from us to him. We admired him for his advocacy and activism for a just peace immediately after his release upon the dismissal of false charges against him.
We have admired him for firmness in principle, his intelligence and style of hard work, seriousness of purpose, quiet kind of courage and humility and his skillful handling of relations in mass work among the youth, workers, peasants, intelligentsia and leaders of various parties.
We can say more about the brilliant qualities of Ka Randy and his accomplishments in the service of the people. But we are confident that many of us can give the wide range of testimonies to propagate his revolutionary spirit and exemplary deeds.
Even those in power who are responsible for his murder are unwittingly rendering Ka Randy the highest honor even if in the vilest form of slander. It is a good thing to be attacked by the enemies of the Filipino people’s revolutionary cause of national and social liberation. The attacks unwittingly verify who are the heroes of the Filipino people.
Ka Randy is a hero of the Filipino people who has contributed his best to our struggle for national freedom, democracy, genuine development, social justice, cultural progress and just peace. He will live forever in the hearts and minds of the people, while his contributions are indestructible energy within the growing and advancing revolutionary movement.
